3D Businessman with a chain ball. Business crime conceptYesterday, I was busy with activities I love.

I had a great conversation with someone who’d like to work with me to clear out limiting beliefs stopping him from living his best life. Then, I worked with a practitioner-client in Amsterdam to help her further her business goals. She’s just started building her practice and is going along at an incredible pace. I’m so proud of her!

Next, I recorded an inspiring interview with a beautiful friend in Australia, for my podcast show. I felt inspired, on top of the world and my head was buzzing so much that I needed to go for a walk to calm all the bees in my brain.

Five minutes later, on my walk, I saw a neighbour get out of her car with great difficulty. Her husband was outside the passenger door trying to help her. I stopped and asked if she’s okay. Her eyes were as big as saucers as she told me that she’s just come back from a 10 day stay in hospital. She had an enormous (2 kg!!!) tumour removed, and she has cancer. Chemo starts next week.

The fear in this lady’s eyes, and that of her husband, was palpable. As most men do, (and what they’re incredibly good with), he tried his best to “fix” it by reassuring us 5 times during those few minutes that she was going to be fine. The fear was the elephant in the room. It seemed like he was so afraid of the possibility of her dying that it daren’t be mentioned out loud.

I hugged her and the tears flowed. As I was walking back to my house, I had to tap for my own feelings. Minutes before, I was elated and on top of the world. It only took 1 minute of stressful news in someone else’s life to bring those good feelings crashing down. I’m so grateful for EFT, every day of my life.

What’s the moral of this story, though?

As I was walking away I thought how much help this couple will need to work through the fears, uncertainties, unpleasant symptoms and so many emotions that inevitably arrive with big change. There is certainly a huge change on their doorstep. Her diagnosis brings with it so many consequences, and it’s a kind of change they didn’t consciously choose – yet have to make peace with somehow.

Here’s where I’m going.

So often in the past – as a practitioner with powerful skills and tools to assist people in difficult times – I’ve made plans to market my services. And then fear stepped in and told me things like

  • “I’m not good enough”, or
  • “I don’t know enough yet”, or
  • “Who will want my help anyway?” or
  • “I might fail at helping the clients and then I’ll feel like a fraud” or
  • so many others

Here’s a sobering thought…

Who are we denying our help, guidance, and assistance if we LET those thoughts stop us? Is there someone in the world (like my neighbour) who we would be PERFECT for, yet we’re denying them our help because we’re afraid to step up and stand out?
